L'Espiguette

This is a MEGA BIG tourist area on the west side of the Camargue.
Avoid it from mid july to mid august (French holiday's).

The beach has up to 30 meter of soft sandy sand dunes (up to 1 meter height) at the water line followed by a "not hard & not soft" plain (1200 to 20 meters wide and 3-4 kilometers long). To the east the sand gets more soft (too soft for normal tires). The best buggy area was close to the camping. The camping is on the photo at the bottom-right side. The best buggy area is not on it. This plain is not smooth (in May). The PVC Spring in the Back was more a "pain in the back". You need a pillow on this beach. The normal Spring in the Back was better but you should also add something soft on this beach. Maybe the beach is softer (more sandy) in mid summer. In the middle of May I only counted up to 5 buggies. Many times only 2, and mine was 1 of them.
Some of the french buggy drivers liked to drive through (over) the little sand dunes with a big power kite. They could just about hold/control the kite. And never managed to take more then 3-4 dunes before something happened. This wears you out, but your arms will fit into a XXXLLLLLL shirt.

Where are the campings:
Just follow the signs to Le Grau du Roi and from there to L'Espiguette. You will find a lot of campings. But there is only one at the beach. Go for camping L'Espiguette. It has supermarkt, shops, a restaurant, disco and "animation" for the children. But it is MEGA BIG !! Opened from april to ...
