NPW 5 F (with Frame), an experiment.

This page describes an experiment that I am doing using the standard NPW 5 plan and tips from the book "Stuntvliegers 2 (StuntKites 2)" by Servaas van der Horst/Nop Velthuizen. Things used from the book are: turbo bridle, couped fabric, knots, Speedwing tunnels, etc. I start with the bare NPW 5 shapes, using LK=1 (but I estimate one could use up to an LK of 2 m (approx. 3 m2) ) and will add a frame. I hope to gain a wider wind window, more power and more speed. Why ? Mainly because the NPW will be more flat (less resistance) and is closer to normal kite behaviour as found with Speedwing's, Spin-Off, etc.
I invite you to follow me in this experiment and share your findings with me. It is not my intention to sell the design, findings or any derived kites. You are allowed to use what ever comes out of this for home use. Other simular shaped kites:
  • Check David Pelham's book 'The Penquin Book of kites'. You will find the French pear top and English arch top. Both 1-liners.
  • The SkyDancer from Inter Active Kites
  • The Wipika
  • The C quad of Peter Lynn

The first experiment.

The second experiment.
