Piet Brijs - Summer vacation 2007
Another summer vacation in Fiss.
As always we enjoyed our stay in "Haus Sunnbichl".
The weather was what you could expect in Austria. It was mostly dry during the daytime, but in the evening or night
we had thunderstorms and/or showers. The first week the temperature was high,
the second week the temperature was around 20 degrees Celsius or a little bit lower. Not too bad afterall.

This year the so called "Witchtrail" was opened in Fiss.
The story goes as follows:
The sorceress Grisabella Glockenhaus brewed a magic potion, but the potion exploded.
The complete house of the sorceress was blast off and crashed upside down.
All the household goods are scattered all over the woods.

During the summer a number of so called "sunrise (or daybreak)" trips is organised. You have to get up early to catch the cable car at 04.00 in the morning for the trip to the top. Then we walked to the choosen spot to watch the sunrise (at 2500 m). In the meantime suitable music was played by musicians of the local musical society.
After the sunrise we walked back to the restaurant and enjoyed a very good breakfast.
It was very cold (+2 degrees), a little bit of snow was falling and the we had to many clouds to see the sun rise.
Nevertheless it was a nice experience.

An evening walk in Fiss.
The first church in Fiss (consecrated in the name of John the Baptist) was build in 1310. The church was enlarged and renewed in 1717/1718. Major renovations and reconstruction in baroque style were accomplished between 1968-73.
